In previous post you have seen that you can fly on Singapore Airlines Suites from Jakarta to Hong Kong for $16 and 37,500 miles required. This is called award ticket redemption. So instead of paying for full fare ticket, you only pay the required miles and the taxes incurred.
Now there are few ways to earn miles.
- Fly with the airlines or the associated alliance. The simplest way to earn miles is to fly with the said airlines. If you want to earn miles on Garuda Indonesia, then you will need to fly with Garuda and join their frequent flyer program, Garuda Miles. Do note that most airlines do not accrue miles for discounted economy ticket. Be sure to check first before booking.
- Earning miles when shopping with airlines partners. You can earn additional miles when you shop, rent a car or staying in the partners hotels. This generally gets you 100-500 miles so don’t focus too much here.
- Earning miles from credit card rewards point. This is where you’ll focus your time on. The idea is that the spending on your credit card will net you rewards point that you can transfer into frequent flyers miles. Most banks have their own credit cards and typically have different reward programs. So knowing which card to use can maximize your points and you can fly premium cabins faster.
