GarudaMiles is a frequent flyer program from Garuda Indonesia. It has few tiers; Blue, Silver, Gold and Platinum. Note that Garuda Indonesia is part of SkyTeam Alliance, so GarudaMiles Platinum is equivalent to SkyTeam Elite Plus.
GarudaMiles program is quite straightforward. You earn miles for flying with Garuda and other SkyTeam Alliance. You will also earn miles from hotels or car rental that partner with GarudaMiles. Remember, only full priced economy tickets (class Y and B) earn 100% miles. Certain class fare such as Class V (discounted ticket fare) earn no miles. Be sure to check your class ticket before issuing.
You can redeem award tickets after you earn enough points on GarudaMiles. To redeem it is a bit of hassle. Unlike Singapore Airlines, where redeeming Krisfyler miles is easy and via online. With Garuda you need to head to the Sales Office, where you need to fill out the application form for redemption ticket.
If you need to know how many miles required for flights with Garuda, you can head to mileage calculator tool. You will see how many miles is required, for example flight from Jakarta to Sydney on Business class flight, would require 63,000 miles. For your reference, flight on Singapore Airlines Business class from Jakarta to Sydney would cost 58,000. Most of the redemption award tickets on Garuda are much more expensive. However, from time to time, it released discounts too on award ticket, where you only need less miles. Like that time when Garuda had 90% off its First Class tickets.
As mentioned it has few tiering, starting from Blue. When you first signup you will automatically get Blue card. The qualify for next tier, you will need to fly more (frequency) or hit the required miles. For example, Garuda Miles Platinum is reached when you fly over 65,000 miles or 65 eligible flights in a year.
