On the way back from Sydney to Jakarta, I made sure to bring my Priority Pass and will share later in the story the perks I have gotten out of it. We also visited SkyTeam Lounge, as Garuda Indonesia does not have its own Lounge at Sydney Airport.
Check-in at Garuda Indonesia counter
We arrived at the Sydney airport at 8am. Garuda Indonesia flight from Sydney departs at 11.40 am, so we had ample time to explore. Check-in was a breeze as I used my GarudaMiles Platinum and beat the long queue. After check in process was complete, she handed us back our passports, boarding pass and Fast Track card. This Fast Track card can be used at the arrival; Immigration and Custom at Soekarno Hatta Terminal 3.
Priority Pass benefit
After checked-in, we did not go straight to the gate. But instead, thanks to TPG’s tip, I found out that Priority Pass was offering dining credit of $36 per person. Priority Pass offers this credit to 5 restaurants in Sydney Airport. The closest restaurant to Garuda check-in counters is Mach2, so we picked that restaurant. Mach2 is located before the security gates, so everyone can go there.
I inquired about Priority Pass benefit and the staff seemed knowledgeable. She guided us to the table and explained how it works. As a Priority Pass member, you could dine and receive $36 dinner credit. If your bill is less than $36, your meal is free and you don’t have to pay anything. You can also bring additional guest, so total credit is $72. Having free breakfast at the airport restaurant (not in lounge), Check!
I ordered Eggs Benedict and Orange Juice. Missus ordered Egg, Spinach & Sausage and Cappucino. The food quality is on par with some of the brunch café in Sydney. Thanks Priority Pass for the treats! When you pay for your bill, simply swipe your Priority Pass card at the register. The total bill came at $52 and the staff asked if we wanted to grab anything else to go, as we have remaining credit. Missus picked 2 chocolate croissants. So in total 2 full meals, 2 drinks and 2 patisseries and we paid $0. Winning!!
We could technically visit other restaurants in Terminal 1; Benny Burger and Peroni Bar. Because dining credit is applicable to each restaurant and not $36 per day. But missus and I agreed, we could not eat anymore. So we headed straight to the security gates.
The check-in staff informed us about the use of lounge. SkyTeam lounge is conveniently located near the boarding gates. In fact, for Garuda Indonesia flight, it was next to the gates. That morning was especially crowded. I noticed beside Garuda, there are passengers travelling with other SkyTeam airlines; China Airlines and Delta Airlines. The Lounge was bright and had comfortable seats. I did not check out the food and drinks selection. Soon, the flight was ready to board. We headed straight to the boarding gate, and it was strange we did not board through the sky bridge. Instead we took a waiting bus and the bus took us to the plane.
If you are flying to/from Sydney, I highly recommend having a Priority Pass card. If you are interested which credit card that comes with Priority Pass card, let me know!
